Marlowe Immersive – Canterbury, UK

Helix provided Virtual Reality production support for “Poet, Playwright, and Provocateur, Christopher Marlowe,” capturing 16 live performances of Marlowe’s plays and poetry using 5 professional VR cameras. In addition to capturing the performances, Helix edited the shows and extracted cinema-quality frames from the VR footage to enhance the immersive experience.

• Adapted and networked five VR cameras with special low-noise fans to prevent interference with surround audio capture, covering key points across the theatre for comprehensive performance coverage.
• Live monitored, recorded, and processed large amounts of 360° video data.
• Edited the video, colour-graded, and mastered the final pieces for immersive cinema release.

The VR productions have been showcased in an immersive cinema at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, offering audiences a new way to engage with Marlowe’s works. With plans to explore further immersive uses of the 360° footage, the project opens up exciting possibilities for virtual theatre experiences.
